Department of Architecture Faculty Member Receives National Appointment
The American Institute of Architecture Students Board of Directors has appointed Department of Architecture professor Dr. Carmina Sánchez-del-Valle to serve as the Liaison with the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) for a two-year term. Since July 2016 she has attended four BoD meetings and two national conferences where she has met students and faculty from the U.S. and abroad. The AIAS is the largest architecture student organization in the United States with chapters in high schools, community colleges, and universities in the U.S. and internationally.
In the Fall of 2016 Dr. Carmina Sánchez-del-Valle was appointed to serve in the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) Education Committee. The group is tasked to lead ACSA efforts to improve the effectiveness of architectural education through best practices with emphases on diversity and equity initiatives and community colleges initiatives. Currently, it is planning a workshop to be held in Spring 2017 on increasing student success focusing on: program climate, pipeline (from high school or pre-college to college), life and career skills, curriculum for diverse students, and guidelines for transitioning from community college to professional programs.
