HU Architecture to Host Disney Imagineering
The Hampton University Department of Architecture will host representatives from Walt Disney Imagineering team on Monday, Sept. 28. They will present the 2010 Walt Disney ImagiNations design competition to students from all different majors at two presentations held in Bemis Laboratories at 1p.m. and 3p.m.

HU Architecture Program Remains Accredited
The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) Inc., recently reaffirmed the accreditation of the Hampton University Master of Architecture program for a six-year term. "We have a program that is able to produce high caliber architects," said Robert Easter, chair of the Department of Architecture and alum of the program. "The reaccreditation shows that our program is stable."

The Society of Women Engineers, Hampton University Student Section along with the Region E Members at Large section will host the Adventures in Engineering program on April 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hampton University School of Engineering and Technology, Olin Engineering Building.

HU to Host Walt Disney Imagineering Team
Walt Disney Imagineering Principal Facility Designer Dexter Tanksley, a 1993 Hampton University alumnus (Architecture), will present the 2009 Walt Disney ImagiNations design competition to HU in the Student Center Theater Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 1:30 p.m., along with members of the Walt Disney Imagineering team.

HU to Host 6th Annual Adventures in Engineering for Local Youth
Hampton University will host this year's Adventures in Engineering conference on Saturday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the HU Olin Engineering Building. The event is free and open to elementary and middle school students as well as their families. Adventures in Engineering is a program designed to expose young students to the opportunities and possibilities available in the field of engineering. The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) HU student section and the SWE Region E Members at Large section are hosting this year’s conference.

HU Awarded Hewlett Packard Technology for Teaching Grant
Hampton University was recently awarded the Technology for Teaching grant from Hewlett Packard (HP). The grant provided HU with tablet PCs to be used in engineering and computer science courses.

HU Hosts Adventures in Engineering for School Children
Hampton University will host this year's "Adventures in Engineering" conference on Saturday, April 14 from 9 - 3 p.m. in the McGrew Towers Conference Center. This is the fifth year for the event and it is free and open to students in grades 5-8 and their families.

HU Honors Two Faculty with Teaching Award
Dr. William Harvey awarded Dr. Jale Akyurtlu, professor of chemical engineering, and Dr. Charles Bump, associate professor of chemistry, with the Edward L. Hamm, Sr. Distinguished Teaching Award during the 64th Annual Opening Convocation held in Ogden Hall on Oct. 1.

HU Awarded $58.9 Million Software Grant from UGS for Architecture and Engineering Programs
UGS, a leading global provider of product-lifestyle-management software and services, has awarded Hampton University an in-kind software grant with a commercial value of nearly $60 million to enhance engineering and architecture programs in the HU School of Engineering and Technology. This software, used by technologists and engineers at leading global companies worldwide, will allow students to experience firsthand the current PLM industry standards for managing the entire lifecycle of a product from concept, through production, delivery, maintenance and retirement.

HU'S Flight Team Places Third in Regional Competition
Hampton University’s Flight Team placed third at the National Intercollegiate Flying Association’s (NIFA) Region 10 Safety Conference and Competition (SAFECON) held Nov. 12-15. The team earned an invitation to the National SAFECON Competition, which will be held April 25 -May 1 at Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

HU Student to Serve on National Architecture Board
Adanna L. Woodson, a fifth-year architecture student at Hampton University, was elected to serve on the board of the National Organization of Minority Architects during the annual conference held in Chicago in October. The northern Virginian native will be one of two student representatives on the board.

HU Receives $200,000 to Study Harmful Air Pollutant
Hampton University was recently awarded a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to study the reduction of nitrogen oxide, which causes acid rain and urban smog, for a three-year project. Hampton will design and test a tin oxide-based catalyst to remove large amounts of nitrogen oxide from power plant gases in order to help treat air pollution.

Hampton University's Department of Architecture recently received a $301,505 grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to rejuvenate distressed neighborhoods near the campus by expanding their role and effectiveness in neighborhood revitalization, housing and economic development.
